Damned Tartan

Can anyone advise on the best way to paint the kilts on my WW1 Devils with Skirts? My attempts so far have been somewhat dispiriting........

Didn't thy have a other kilt of a brown colour? our was that late war. If you want to paint the tartan I would go with a green of your choice depending on which regiment you want and put little spots of black in a regular pattern. just remember it only has to look good at 3'

I can confirm that a brown cover was worn over the kilt, it was a sackcloth colour
